Solid ink printing

Solid ink printing is a technology becoming more and more popular each and every day. With its virtually jam-free paper path, it makes printing more convenient in more ways than one. Not only that, but it is easy to use and less wasteful than other forms of printing. The problem is that a lot of people don’t know what exactly it is.

So what exactly is a solid ink printer? How does it work? Well the solid ink form of printing is much different than an ink cartridge. First of all, there is no cartridge even needed. Solid ink is a loose stick instead of the common fluid ink inside cartridges. Much like a crayon, solid ink is created out of resin-based ink that is non-toxic. Much safer than ink or toner cartridges, these are both environmentally friendly and easy to handle. You can also load up to 5 sticks of each color into most printers at once, meaning you won’t have to replace them very often.

Solid ink is also very easy to use. It has drop-in loading, which means loading ink is as easy as taking the solid ink out of its packaging and dropping it into it slot.  Ink cartridges are much more complicated to replace. Solid ink also leave nearly no mess behind, and they are small, so they save on storage space by taking up nearly no room.

One of the major upsides of solid printing happens to be the fact that they create such little waste. When you buy solid ink, you have little packaging and no cartridges to dispose of. Ink and toner cartridges should be replaced, but get thrown into landfills much more often than they should. Solid ink produces 90% less waste than your average inkjet or laser printer. Because solid ink is so small and light, less fuel is saved on shipping too, which means fewer CO2 emissions being released into the ozone.  Most solid ink printers also come with an energy-save mode that will reduce the amount of energy used for each print.
